Golden Eagle Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame

The BCHS Hall of Fame is a distinguished congregation of community members who have exemplified measures of success in a variety of areas. Each year, this celebration aims to honor and induct a member or members of the BCHS community who have gone above and beyond in their accomplishments, and who have demonstrated high levels of success both in their involvement with Bourgade Catholic and in their personal and professional lives.

The Bourgade Catholic Advancement Office, in conjunction with current Hall of Fame members, will look to induct a new member or members that fit within the following profiles.

2020 Hall of Fame Inductions
(The following community members were selected for induction in 2020, but did not commence their formal induction ceremony until 2021.)

Carol Stecker Heinley '73 - Distinguished in Service

Just as does an employee of a Catholic school, Carol has worn many hats throughout her years within the BCHS community. Student, alumni, volunteer, auction chair, parent, grandparent, babysitter, assistant cheer coach, production manager, stage manager, and the list of titles goes on and on.

Carol is the proud mother of four Bourgade graduates -- Carrie '06, Phil '08, Blake '11 and Marissa '16. While each was attending Bourgade, Carol was equally present. Whether volunteering at an event, cheering Phil and Blake on at sporting events or helping Carrie and Marissa think of the most clever costumes for spirit week, Carol was present. In more recent years, you could still catch Carol on the sidelines at football games, this time wrangling together cheerleaders and watching her grandkids as Carrie prepared the team for the halftime performance.

Carol’s involvement at Bourgade supersedes longevity; her service to the Bourgade community, in support of her children has become her legacy. Though mother to Carrie, Phil, Blake and Marissa, Carol played Bourgade Mom to so many others over the past decade. The dedication to her alma mater, by way of her children, has been a true blessing to our community and we are grateful for all she has given to Bourgade. Congratulations to Carol on adding another hat to her collection -- Hall of Famer.

Rich Browner - Distinguished in Service

Rich Browner dedicated himself to the Bourgade Catholic Community for 20 years. During his time, Rich served as a theology teacher, youth minister, leader of the liturgical choir, Active Bourgade Catholics moderator and more. While Rich's impact on students was greatly felt in the classroom, he also mentored as a leader in Mexico Mission Trips and other faith-formation experiences. In 2007, Rich was the recipient of Catholic Charities Office of Peace Bishop Edward A. McCarthy Award for his excellence in youth/campus ministry. In his 20 years of teaching, Rich is estimated to have taught between 1500-1800 students. As a co-leader of 12 mission trips, Rich helped build 44 houses with hundreds of students. His teaching and spiritual leadership is often cited as a high point for Bourgade alumni within the past 20 years. Rich still continues his ministry today, now at St. Francis Xavier Parish and School.

David Lane '72 - Distinguished Alumni

David Lane joins the Bourgade Catholic Hall of Fame with 38 years of public service as a City of Phoenix police officer. Beginning as a patrol officer, David worked his way to lead detective for vehicular homicides where he achieved a 100% clearance rate for solving every single one of his cases which is estimated to be over 300. In 1990, David tested for and was selected as sergeant for the southwest part of Phoenix. His assignment lasted 18 months before he was transferred back to the detective bureau where he was assigned to a unit that handled major felony crimes. David's career continued to soar after being put in charge of a task force to address Arizona's auto theft problem. This led to his leadership of a new unit that was designed to help reduce police liability incidents and lawsuits. David's work in this unit resulted in reducing the department's liability by more than $3,000,000 in a two-year period. In his career, David received over 100 commendations and letters of thanks from citizens throughout the state of Arizona.

2010 Baseball Team

The 2010 varsity baseball team reached the 10-year mark of their state championship victory on May 15, 2020. The 2009-2010 baseball season was preceded by a 2009 semi-finals loss and a 2008 finals loss in the state championship tournament. The 2010 season proved to be the “third time’s a charm” as the Golden Eagles defeated Camp Verde 6-5 to earn the title. With a senior-heavy roster, the 2010 Golden Eagles dominated their section opponents winning all 6 games, ultimately achieving a 23-7 record overall on the season. The 2010 team stands out, not only for their championship, but for also serving as the peak of a 6-year stretch where Bourgade baseball remained consistently competitive within the 2A division. The 2010 baseball championship marked the 6th team-sport state championship in school history (out of 7; softball in 2012). Lastly, the 2010 state championship baseball team was coached by two current BCHS Hall of Famers, Greg Henke and Terry Woods. Greg Henke’s sudden passing in 2017 devastated the BCHS community. Henke’s legacy includes many of his roles at Bourgade, but it is often associated with his time as the head of the baseball program. Terry Woods, an acquainted community member, coached with Greg and Kevin Woods, Terry’s son, during Kevin’s tenure as a BCHS faculty member. Together, the three were widely recognized for putting Bourgade baseball on the map from 2006-2011. Recognizing the 2010 championship team would also be a great tribute to Greg Henke and Terry Woods. To this day, Terry who is an accomplished attorney, still cites the 2010 championship as one of his proudest moments. Before his passing, Greg too, held the 2010 championship in high regard.
